I am in the lovely town of San Luis Obispo and typing from a most charming bed and breakfast called Petit Soleil. This is my fifth visit to this beautiful part of California as it is the home of my beloved daughter, McKenzie where she studies at Cal Poly. It is wonderful to have time with her and just relax in the sun. Today I will walk through this town and just reflect and hope that in Seattle my good friend Francisco is awaiting the arrival of his dad from Guatemala. I will call home later to confirm that indeed this is happening, but for now I want to just imagine that all will unfold in the sweetest of ways. I am trying to get my heart and mind to settle into all that this year holds. Before I left Seattle for this little break, I had the pleasure of working with a number of clients that brought new babies for my camera to record, I had been their wedding photographer and this brings such joy that I know my year will be filled with many wonderful and heart warming times. In love and peace, Lynette

Today we hang the show at Glazer's and I hope we will reach many more photographers who will be willing to take their talents into areas of passion that may have meaning beyond their expectations. My sister in law Sally will join John and me in hanging the show, and its always special having her by my side as her daughter Lanie is on of the children to which I dedicate the foundation. The show will be up for a couple months so please drop in to view.
Those of you who saw Barry on KIRO were in for a special treat. That young man was so powerful with his words and his sincerity. I am pleased to say that I was able to be with him again on Saturday to get some shots of him with his sister and his mail. I watched him open his mail and it is amazing his interest and attention to each piece. It was fun to see what people send, everything from licorice to angels to money. I was happy to see that those who could slipped in a few dollars as it is a long road for this delightful family.
I am putting up a new shot of our Emily friend as she is doing so well, and after talking with Colette I think we all just pray that she keeps on this path to health. It is wonderful to see her walking and happy with her wonderful sister by her side being the ultimate cheerleader.
I am loving my new studio and the courtyard is perfect for shooting. With this weather being so beautiful it is a treat to work with my business clients in such a wonderful space. Wedding season is about to start and I so love working with the brides as it brings me such joy and release from some of the emotions that surround me.
I am crossing my fingers that today we will hear if Francisco's father will be coming to Seattle. I had the most lovely evening last Wednesday with Ann and Gwen who have worked so hard to try to make this happen. I also had another wonderful chat with the mother of Andrew who will be coming to my studio for photos on March 1. The parents of these children are so inspiring and so helpful with sharing their thoughts about the work of Soulumination.
In love and peace, Lynette

Late change: the segment about Barry and his mail will air a half hour earlier than planned. It is on tonight in the Seattle area on KIRO, channel 7, Friday , February 17 at 6:15.
I would like to add a special thank you to Elise and her family for sending out the most lovely birthday invitation using one of the Soulumination photos asking that friends and family send donations in her honor to Soulumination. A rough estimate of funds we have received and those that her mom is sending from the party is an amazing $1500.00. We are blessed indeed. Elise is pictured here today

Barry will be featured on KIRO tomorrow at 6:40 pm in a piece by Mona Locke about his passion for receiving mail. Tune in Friday evening to see this great guy in action. I will see him Saturday morning to get photos with his sister and some of the mail to share with the folks in Missoula who have been mailing steadily for months.
Today is my birthday and I am trying to get out of the office to spend a few hours alone on this beautiful day. Llewelyn will be home tonight for dinner and tomorrow I celebrate with Doug and Lew and my good friend Anne Cunningham and her husband as she was born on my birthday. Yesterday a little visitor named Emily, sister Mianna and mom Colette came by and it made it such a special day as today is the one year anniversary of our first meeting and the visit came with the news that Emily may very well have a chance of being cured-----talk about a birthday present! She is pictured here today.
I want to take time to thank all of my business clients for their support. I am so treasuring the time I have with each of them as the joy and delight of those shoots so rejuvenate the soul. I am blessed. In love and peace, Lynette

Its been very busy this past week and I am delighted that the sun is shining and in a while I will leave to record a committment ceremony. I spoke at Rotary Club of Bellevue this last Tuesday and was pleased that the story of Soulumination seemed to be of interest to the members and that many were kind enough to take time to share their feelings after the meeting. I thank them for donating to a food bank in my name, such a lovely honor. Millard Lesch, longtime friend and client, was my contact to this group and I am hoping to convince him to join Soulumination in setting some long term strategy.
On Friday evening Doug and I went to visit Francisco at Children's. We did not get to spend time with him as he was busy being cared for by his wonderful nurses. I did pop in and say good night to Barry and his mom, who I am thrilled to picture here today. He is back in the hospital and I hope that he will be receiving many Valentines from all of you. His address is included in previous blogs so you can check there and mail him a cheery greeting. We also had the pleasure of visiting with a new Soul family who will be coming to have photos on the first of March. Once again a new family that is so charming and loving that it is so inspiring to be with them.
Yesterday was Sydney's memorial and I thought it was perfectly lovely. The words, music and photos of her life left me reeling with thoughts of all she was and did in her short years. I ended my little talk about my relationship with her and our mutual love of art with words that I think speak so clearly about artists: "You have your brush, you have your colors, You paint paradise, then in you go." Nikos Kazantikas. It was great to have my brother-in-law, Mark Johnson, seated by my side to keep me a little grounded with his support as it was a day of high emotion honoring this special friend.
I met with John and Kelley today to work out the details of the upcoming show in DC. It will be the first week in April and will hang for a couple of months in the Children's Hospital in DC. If you know of anyone that would like to attend please email their name and address. I am so excited that Kelley, our board member, will be back in DC and will shepherd me through this experience. Two weeks following this adventure I will be speaking in Cleveland at the volunteer appreciation night for Hospice of the Western Conference. Again, if you know anyone who would like to attend and lives in that area, please email their address.
In Seattle you will get to see 30 pieces of The Collection displayed at Glazer's Camera beginning February 20th. I am so appreciative of the interest shown by the Lackman family in this work. They are supportive friends and it gives me a thrill to think of the Soul children being viewed by so many talented photographers. There will be pieces hanging in all three of their buildings, so please visit them.

A lovely letter arrived in the mail yesterday, I was nominated for the Horace Mann Award of Antioch University. Although they said I was not the winner of the award I was very touched as it said the award recognizes individuals who have won a significant victory for humanity through their work or volunteerism.
As always I close remembering the special children of this project and their families, in love and peace, Lynette

It has been sunny today and I am thankful that soon our Seattle Seahawks will be playing in the Super Bowl, and I need a diversion. I am trying to write my speech for the Bellevue Rotary while thinking ahead to the fact that I will speak at my lovely friend Sydney's memorial next weekend. I am also looking back over the past hour when a longtime friend came to pick me up to do a personal photo project- photos of his lovely and compassionate sister and her husband and three daughters before we lose this gem to ovarian cancer.

This all comes after an evening in which it was my honor to speak at the Eleanor Henry Reed Guild Fundraiser for Children's Hospital. The event was indeed a big success and we were thrilled to display a dozen large prints of the Soul Collection. Each time I speak I carry with me the images in my head of the families that inspire me to move forward with this work. Last night I spent a few minutes talking about Sydney and her Valentines, which is a bittersweet thing for me. My own Valentines will go out with her in mind.

I am thankful for all of you who have agreed to write to my new friend, Barry. I have been enjoying making some mail art for that kiddo and delighting in the fact that so many of you have promised to write also, lets really follow through and honor this young life with a few minutes of our attention.

Some thank yous are in order: To Deb Hamby for having the inspiration to call Rositas for special tamales for our friend Francisco and to Rositas at Greenlake for responding with six to our request for two, and for doing this at no cost, truly a lovely and caring gesture. To Eric Ortiz at Smashbox Cosmetics at Nordstrom for fitting me in at the last minute to do makeup for my speech at the request of our wonderful office manager and amazing assistant John Flodin. To Pat McReynolds of KING 5 for taking time to come introduce me and to use his amazing voice to help raise funds for Children's Hospital. To Mac and Lulu for always being willing to talk to their mom, even when I am crying and need to hear their wonderful voices to remind me that doing this project will lead to another mom having a piece of their memory held intact. To those of you who read this Blog and share the work of Soulumination with others, I am so very grateful.

I close as always, in love and peace, Lynette Please take the time to read a most amazing poem written by my friend to her son Tal who was stillborn. He is pictured with Sydney above in a shot taken by his uncle and lovingly touched by the hand of Stephen at Wallingford Photo who donated his time to make this shot one of a truly angelic nature.

I did not know grief but it found me. It hurled itself upon my heart!
Squeezed it, wrenched it, and tore it apart.
I did not know the depth of pain, the shattered pieces, the broken dreams.
the sleepless night, the endless tears and broken seams.

Grief, I say is its own beast
And on one's heart does it feast.
But bear in mind that my heart will be my guide
This unthinkable loss, I shall learn to carry and not hide

Grief, you may take your course and rip right through
for in this process, to my heart I shall be true
as my heart begins to mend, the deep scar will remain
For it is life's deepest wounds that cause this pain

A beautiful little boy, so perfectly formed
Not one breath did he take on the day it stormed
but he touched our lives in so many ways
In our hearts and minds he forever stays

The loss of a child and all that he could be
Will forever become an intergral part of me
I shall never forget his sweet little face
His delicate hands and his lovely grace

His soul is forever entwined with mine
His spirit flies free and I know he is fine
The intense love for my sweet angel Tal
Whose life he lived within my well

My little dew drop, my gentle angel, oh let it be,
I know you, I've always known you, fly free!!!!

My heart is heavy indeed as I lost my lovely friend Sydney Coxon last night. She had come home from the hospital and snuggled with her beloved dog, Mugsy, but after being more awake than anytime in the past days she died in her sleep that evening. I think of her trying to finish the Valentines she was so lovingly creating, a true artist to the end. I had read these words by Nancy Jackson just yesterday and thought of her: "The artist has so much love to give back to the universe that it spills over and the fallen drops become works of art. It is love in another form." Now my dear friend Sydney is herself "love in another form."

My heart is with her family. In peace and love, Lynette
